Fred McClain, from Allen Park, won his first National Senior Bowling Association title in convincing fashion as he never gave his opponent a chance in the title match. Fred reeled off the front 11 strikes before a stubborn 10 pin stood for a 299-219 win over George Phillips from Centreville. In his other matches, McClain defeated Mike McCleskey of Southfield, 245-174, Dan Mayer of Waterford, 234-175 and Dick Selgo from Archbold, Ohio, 215-203.

Fred picked up the winner’s check of $1,000 and the championship trophy for his effort.

Phillips led all qualifiers and beat Steve Smith from Toledo, Ohio, 227-182, Joe Buffa of Macomb Twp., 233-226 and John Thomasma from Kalamazoo, 206-183. George pocketed the runner-up check of $500.
