 The National Senior Bowling Association had 2 firsts as the #1 and #2 qualifiers finished #1 and #2 respectively, and it also produced the lowest scoring in its 18 year history. The tournament was held at Woodhaven Lanes in Woodhaven on Saturday, September 8th and only 7 bowlers averaged 200 or better in the 6 game qualifying.
Larry Walker from Garden City, the #1 seed started by beating Dan Mayer, Waterford 238-200, Dave Tulak of Taylor, 214-171 and Rick Parschen from Strongsville, Ohio, 199-165 to advance to the title match. In a match that went back and forth, Walker finally prevailed with a 199-168 win over Mike Abbey of Jackson. Larry pocketed the winner’s check of $1,000 and the championship trophy for his effort.
Abbey qualified 2nd and beat Ron Burgess from Plymouth, 234-224, Mike LaRocca of New Hudson, 194-188 and Doug Spicer of Canton, 210-152 before losing to Walker. Mike collected the runner-up check of $500.
Tournament Director Bob Pniewski presents the trophy to this month's champion.
