Larry Walker of Garden City won the National Senior Bowling Association’s August tournament with 279-231 win over Rick Vittone of Canada. .  The tournament was held at Colonial Lanes in Ann Arbor on Saturday, August 8, 2009.

Walker qualified first in a field of 80 bowlers and defeated Ralph Jennings from Detroit, 278-193, Steve Sears of Michigan Center, 214-205, and then in a match that went down to the tenth frame, needing a double for the win, Larry threw 3 strikes for a 279-269 victory over Michael McCleskey of Southfield to advance to the title match. Walker received the first place check of $1,000, the championship trophy, and the championship towel for his effort.

Vittone qualified 12th and beat John Thomasma of Kalamazoo, 230-218, Lance Williams from Sterling Heights, 221-193, Michael Atkins from Pontiac, 256-236 and Larry Franz of Redford 230-217.  Vittone received the runner-up check of $500.

High game honors went to Michael Atkins and Phil Horowitz with 300 and Walker led all qualifiers. 

The next NSBA tournament will be held at Oak Lanes in Westland on September 12, 2009.
